Register Cleaning in Phoenix, AZ

What register cleaning actually involves in Phoenix homes

Most of the Valley runs ceiling registers fed by attic flex. In the 1950s-70s block ranch homes, it's sheet metal trunk-and-branch instead. Either way, the grille is the part you see and the smallest part of the problem. What loads up is the boot behind it. Desert silt and gypsum dust settle there because the boot is the first place air slows down.

So the register comes off the ceiling, not just wiped in place. Two screws, then a flashlight into the boot. That look answers several questions at once. Flex disconnected from the collar turns up often. Crushed flex at the boot shows up just as often. Torn inner liner shedding fiberglass looks like pale strands caught on the boot lip.

Gray streaking on the ceiling around a register is not dirt on the grille. That's air leaking past an unsealed boot and filtering through drywall. Washing the grille won't touch it.

Floor registers on the surviving under-slab systems need different handling. Silt packs the bottom and monsoon humidity keeps it damp. Never flush one with water.

Registers alone are cosmetic if the blower wheel is caked. Check that first, or the clean grilles just frame the same weak airflow.
